Module 7 — China Conditions
Normative specification. Module 7 is deterministic (no LLM on the scoring path). It scores
whether China's economy and markets are a tailwind or headwind for US equities, on a
−2…+2 scale, and maps that onto China-exposed US companies and Chinese-company→US-industry
spillovers. It aggregates eight base components (GDP, manufacturing PMI, services PMI,
industrial production, retail sales, fixed-asset investment, property, credit), overlays
fiscal/monetary policy support and an economic-surprise adjustment, and confirms with
markets using Chinese-equity direction, China/SPY relative strength and the yuan. GDP,
property and credit are critical components — if property or credit is invalid the whole
economic base is INVALID. It does not decide the final currency/yield regime, own the
final yuan conclusion, select a stock, set entry/stop/target, or place an order. It produces
the China handoff that Module 6 pulls in exactly once (§14.17).
Implementation: routes/module7.py → snapshots/module7.json (+ a stateful store
.data/module7_events.db for spillover overlays), surfaced in a role-gated "Module 7" navbar
view. Its extraction-only LLM front-end is agents/skills/module7_extract.md.
Implementation note (v1 ceilings). GDP, property and credit are critical base
components (§2.5/§11.2), and there is no property or credit data feed today — so the economic
base runs INVALID by design (base point 0/None, confidence INVALID), exactly like
Module 6's own base. The live surfaces in v1 are: Chinese-equity direction and China/SPY
relative strength (Polygon ETF proxies — ASHR/MCHI/FXI/KWEB), onshore USD/CNY drift (FRED
DEXCHUS; offshore CNH + the RMB basket have no feed, so the yuan reads DEGRADED), the
shared industry ETF confirmation table, and the LLM China company-alert/spillover cards.
Best-effort China GDP/IP come from FRED and will often resolve MISSING. Manufacturing/Caixin
& services PMI, TSF/credit impulse, LPR/RRR, fiscal, property city-prices/developer-distress,
consensus surprise, and the Module 5 restriction-transmission leg are MISSING / NOT_WIRED
until a feed is licensed (each marked with a # ponytail: ceiling in routes/module7.py).

Property-development investment receives:

16. How China Credit Is Calculated
China credit uses:
- 60% credit impulse
- 40% total social financing stock growth
Credit impulse measures whether new financing is speeding up or slowing down compared with the size of China’s economy.
The bot:
- Adds the latest twelve months of new financing.
- Divides it by nominal GDP.
- Compares it with the equivalent ratio three months earlier.
The change receives:
- At least +2 percentage points: +2
- +0.50 to below +2 points: +1
- Between −0.50 and +0.50: 0
- −2 to −0.50: −1
- At most −2 points: −2
TSF stock growth is compared with its five-year normal rate using the same thresholds.
17. How the Complete Base Score Is Calculated
The bot multiplies every component score by its assigned weight.
It then adds all weighted contributions.
The final base score is:
- +1.25 or higher: +2
- +0.35 to below +1.25: +1
- Between −0.35 and +0.35: 0
- −1.25 to −0.35: −1
- −1.25 or lower: −2
18. How Fiscal Stimulus Is Scored
The bot measures funded incremental fiscal support during the first twelve months as a percentage of China’s GDP.
- At least 0.75% of GDP: +2
- 0.25% to below 0.75%: +1
- Between −0.25% and +0.25%: 0
- Fiscal withdrawal from −0.75% to −0.25%: −1
- Fiscal withdrawal of at least 0.75%: −2
The policy stage matters:
- Announcement only: 0
- Approved but unfunded: 0
- Funded but not deployed: reduced one level toward zero
- Funded and deployed: full score
19. How PBOC Policy Is Scored
The bot checks changes during the latest 90 days in:
- PBOC policy rates.
- One-year LPR.
- Over-five-year LPR.
- Reserve-requirement ratio.
For rates and LPR:
- Cut of at least 20 basis points: +2
- Cut from 10 to below 20 basis points: +1
- Change smaller than 10 basis points: 0
- Increase from 10 to below 20 basis points: −1
- Increase of at least 20 basis points: −2
For reserve requirements:
- Cut of at least 50 basis points: +2
- Cut from 25 to below 50 basis points: +1
- Change smaller than 25 basis points: 0
- Increase from 25 to below 50 basis points: −1
- Increase of at least 50 basis points: −2
The bot uses the strongest same-direction action.
It does not add every tool together.
20. How Policy Support Changes the China Score
Fiscal and monetary policy can change the China score by a maximum of one point.
Examples:
- Both are supportive: +1.
- One is strongly supportive and the other neutral: +1.
- Both are restrictive: −1.
- One is strongly restrictive and the other neutral: −1.
- They conflict: 0.
The overlay lasts a maximum of 90 days.
It ends earlier when two consecutive economic releases show that the policy effect has already appeared in the real data.
21. How Economic Surprises Are Used
For each important China release, the bot compares:
- The actual result.
- The market’s median forecast.
- The normal historical forecast error.
A result at least one normal historical error better than expected is a positive surprise.
A result at least one normal error worse than expected is a negative surprise.
The surprise can change the China score by only one point and lasts for one completed US trading session.
It cannot turn a negative China condition directly positive or a positive condition directly negative.
22. How the Yuan Is Judged
The bot checks:
- USD/CNY.
- USD/CNH.
- A broad RMB currency basket.
The yuan is strong when:
- Both USD/CNY and USD/CNH fall by at least 0.75% over five sessions.
- Both remain below their twenty-day averages.
- The wider RMB basket does not contradict them.
The yuan is weak when:
- Both pairs rise by at least 0.75%.
- Both remain above their twenty-day averages.
- The wider basket does not contradict them.
If the onshore and offshore yuan differ by at least 1% for 30 minutes, the bot activates a disorder warning and stops using the yuan as confirmation.
23. How Chinese Stocks Are Judged
Four indexes vote:
- CSI 300.
- CSI 1000.
- Hang Seng China Enterprises.
- MSCI China.
An index gives:
- +1 when it is above its twenty-day average and has risen over five sessions.
- −1 when it is below its average and has fallen.
- 0 when the two conditions disagree.
At least three positive votes produce a positive China equity condition.
At least three negative votes produce a negative condition.
24. How China/SPY Relative Strength Is Judged
The bot divides the broad China ETF price by SPY.
This shows whether Chinese shares are outperforming or underperforming the US market.
- Ratio above its twenty-day average and up at least 2% over five sessions: strong relative strength.
- Ratio above its average and rising by less than 2%: relative strength.
- Ratio below its average and down at least 2%: strong relative weakness.
- Ratio below its average and falling by less than 2%: relative weakness.
- Anything else: neutral.
25. How Markets Confirm or Challenge the China Result
A positive China score is confirmed when:
- Chinese stocks are positive.
- China/SPY shows relative strength.
- The yuan is not weak.
A negative China score is confirmed when:
- Chinese stocks are negative.
- China/SPY shows relative weakness.
- The yuan is not strong.
When markets strongly contradict the economic score, the point moves one level toward zero:
- +2 becomes +1
- +1 becomes 0
- 0 stays 0
- −1 becomes 0
- −2 becomes −1
Markets cannot reverse the economic result by themselves.
26. How US–China Restrictions Are Handled
Module 5 calculates the original US government restriction.
Module 7 does not score that policy again.
Module 7 calculates what happens inside China:
- Production lost.
- Technology access lost.
- New Chinese domestic investment.
- Import substitution.
- Chinese companies helped or harmed.
The restriction affects the broad China score only when:
- At least 0.50% of China’s GDP is affected; or
- At least 2% of Chinese industrial value added is affected.
Smaller effects remain sector, industry or company signals.
27. How Sector and Industry Effects Are Calculated
The bot calculates the smallest reliable group:

It checks:
- Revenue from China.

28. Why the Bot Uses Both an Industry ETF and ETF/SPY Ratio
The plain industry ETF shows whether the industry price is rising or falling.
The ETF/SPY ratio shows whether the industry is doing better or worse than the broad US market.
A positive China effect is market-confirmed only when:
- The industry ETF is rising.
- The ETF is above its twenty-day average.
- The ETF/SPY ratio is rising.
- The ratio is above its twenty-day average.
A negative effect is confirmed when all four conditions point down.
Market confirmation changes confidence. It does not create another China point.
29. How Company China-Exposure Alerts Work
A company alert is created when:
- At least 20% of its business is exposed to China.
- The final China result is +2 or −2.
- The exposure information is current.
The alert shows:
- Company.
- Ticker.
- Exposure percentage.
- Type of exposure.
- Exact China driver.
- Positive or negative effect.
- Confidence.
- Expected duration.
The alert does not approve a trade.
30. How Chinese Company News Becomes a Global Industry Signal
A Chinese company event becomes a global industry spillover through either of two routes.
Market reaction
- The event is verified.
- It changes competition, capacity, pricing, technology or market access.
- At least three global peers or one industry ETF reacts.
- The relative move is at least 1%.
- Relative volume is at least 1.5 times normal.
Structural capacity
- The event changes at least 5% of global industry capacity.
- The change is expected within 24 months.
A company’s share-price rise alone is not enough.
Module 7 identifies the China cause.
Module 6 calculates the wider global result.
31. How Confidence Is Calculated
Confidence uses:
- 35% data coverage
- 30% agreement among China indicators
- 20% agreement between property and credit
- 15% confirmation from the yuan and Chinese stocks
Confidence penalties:
- Manufacturing surveys differ by at least 3 points: minus 10 points
- Services surveys differ by at least 3 points: minus 5 points
- Onshore and offshore equities strongly disagree: minus 5 points
- Yuan disorder: yuan confirmation receives 0
Final confidence:
- 80% or higher: high
- 60% to below 80%: medium
- 40% to below 60%: low
- Below 40%: invalid

Risk becomes critical when:
- The yuan shows disorder and Chinese stocks are negative; or
- China has a −2 result while property and credit are both −2.
Risk is high when:
- Final China direction is −2.

Risk is moderate when:
- China direction is −1.
- Property and credit conflict.
- Markets strongly contradict the economic data.
A valid positive China condition with no major stress has no separate China risk warning.
